Get to know your bee keeper!

How we started

We have been intrigued with beekeeping for a long time and several years ago decided to stop talking about it and get started. What started with two hives has continued to grow and now includes a second location in nearby Meridian. We’ve elected to stay relatively small so that we can personally manage the care of our bees and the production of our honey.

About our Honey Production

We’re able to produce high quality local honey by keeping our hives in the same suburban location year round. Unlike commercial hives that are trucked all over the country for pollination services we can be sure that our honey contains 100% local nectar and pollen sources. Being in a suburban area provides a wide variety of forage for our bees with the added benefit of limiting the heavy herbicide and pesticide spraying that occurs in areas dominated by agriculture. We extract and bottle in a manner that allows us to know which of our two locations our honey is from. If we chose to we could isolate our honey to the exact hive that produced it!

The Challenges Honeybees Face

One of the most common questions we get asked is about the decline of the honey bee in the U.S. This decline continues to be studied and not all experts agree on the cause but several main contributors are thought to be the varroa mite which weakens bees, decreased forage sources for bees, and the continued widespread use of herbicides and pesticides. These are challenges that we face throughout each year as beekeepers. By staying on top of current issues and lots of hands-on hard work we have been very successful in preventing bee loss in our own apiary.
